Promoter’s Cup review Misano

French driver Téo Calvet took three victories in the first round of the season, while his closest competitor Shane Brereton prevented him from taking a clean sweep.

Téo Calvet kicked off his 2022 season with a strong performance in Misano. The Buggyra ZM Racing driver started on Promoter’s Cup pole for all four races and was also in the mix with the front runners in the overall classification with some great battles like in race 1, where he managed to keep Steffi Halm behind him with some great defending.

The pair battled once again in race two, but the drivers came together after Calvet went for an opportunist move down the inside of Turn 4. The Frenchman outbroke himself and drove straight into the side of Halm. Both trucks continued, having sustained damage, but Halm lost out most, dropping to seventh on the grid whilst Calvet held onto fourth.
The Frenchman was handed a five-second penalty for causing a collision, giving the Promoter’s Cup victory to Shane Brereton and second in class to Steffen Faas. Calvet was able to hold onto third with Jamie Anderson then two seconds behind in fourth.

Sunday was a much cleaner day for Calvet, who once again took class pole in both races, this time avoiding incident and taking the final two Promoter’s Cup wins of the weekend.

Defending Promoter’s Cup champion Shane Brereton took home a win and two second places from the first event in Misano.

He was robbed of a chance of four competitive results when, in race 3, fellow countryman Anderson spun him out of contention. Anderson was looking to make the move past Brereton to challenge Faas for third in class, but outbroke himself and hit the rear of Brereton instead. The contact spun the Apollo Tyres Tor Truck Racing #17 around. He managed to finish the race but was overall 14th and even though Anderson was handed a ten second penalty, Brereton still ended behind the Anderson Racing truck.

Jamie Anderson finished the weekend on a positive note though, securing a podium in the last race on Sunday afternoon.

Portuguese racer José Rodrigues took a second place from the opening round after a close battle with Calvet in race 3. He didn’t make it easy for the French driver, with the pair switching positions multiple times during the race. However, the intense battle ended with Calvet on top and Rodrigues settling for second.

Steffen Faas had a big of a mixed start to the season. The German took two podium finishes but had to retire from the last race with a technical issue.

Clemens Hecker, who started into the season with a brand-new Scania racing truck experienced some teething problems in the first round of 2022. The German saw the chequered flag twice, suffering from technical issues in the other two races.

Thomas Robineau took home a good points spell including a podium from his outing in Misano.
