Garrett’s selfless gesture rewarded with best Goodyear FIA ETRC result
Luke Garrett said he had no hesitation to loan his spare gearbox to Bradley Smith during a weekend of firsts for the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship Chrome category racer.
Garrett turned saviour during Smith’s hour of need at the Slovakia Ring, a gesture that ensured his fellow British racer could line up for and then take top Goodyear FIA ETRC Chrome honours in Race 3.
“I used to race with Tony [Smith, Bradley’s father] in England, I know for a fact if it was on the other foot, he’d do the same and for Bradley to be out there racing was the main thing,” Garrett said.

After a challenging season-opening weekend at Misano last month, Garrett was on form in Slovakia, once he got into his stride on Sunday. Third in Chrome in Race 3 – his first category podium of 2026 – Garrett secured pole position on the partially-reversed Race 4 grid, finishing Race 4 in the runner-up spot in class. His capture of sixth overall was a career best in the Goodyear FIA ETRC.
“The team has worked hard,” Garrett said following Race 3. “It’s our first podium of the year and hopefully there will be a few more.”
After finishing second in class in Race 4, Garrett added: “Once the race got settled I was able to keep the pace of everybody and I’m well chuffed. This time last year we were at the back all the time so to get this is brilliant, my best overall result.”
