Promoter's Cup Review Misano

Reigning French Truck Racing Champion José Eduardo Rodrigues had a fantastic start in the Goodyear FIA ETRC taking two wins and two podiums last weekend in Misano.

The Portuguese racer delivered a consistent performance all weekend and, owing to a strong pace, he was even battling with the Titan drivers at the front of the field.

Starting from reverse grid pole in race four it had looked like José Eduardo would take his first overall win as he led most of the race, defending from fellow Chrome driver Steffen Faas. But a charging Antonio Albacete caught them both towards the end of the race and Rodrigues finished second on the overall podium. The Portuguese driver leads the Promoter’s Cup category by ten points and sits in fifth overall.

Seasoned Chrome driver Steffen Faas had a brilliant start to the season, taking a victory and three podiums in the Promoter’s Cup in Italy. For the first time in his truck racing career, Faas also took an overall podium, topping off a fantastic weekend for the tankpool24-Racing team. “The truck was great to drive, and we’re really happy with the result,” said Faas.

Lion Truck Racing driver Jonathan André took his first ever Goodyear FIA ETRC podium in the first race of the weekend. André showed some great racing when he battled with José Eduardo Rodrigues for the class win. The Frenchman had a solid run all weekend and is expected to join the grid again later in the season.

British racer John Newell recorded a strong opening weekend in the 2023 Goodyear FIA ETRC season.
Finishing eighth overall in the first race, Newell started from pole position in the reverse-grid race.
Leading the field away for the second race of the day,  Newell held onto the lead well at the start of the race, but a charging Sascha Lenz made light work of the rookie to take the lead. Newell started to fall down the order as the Titian drivers progressed up the field, but he drove well in the rain and took second place in the Promoter’s Cup, seventh overall.
After qualifying ninth on Sunday morning, Newell took another class podium in race three and rounded off his strong weekend with another trophy from third place in the Promoter’s Cup.

Scania racer Clemens Hecker had a good run in the first round of 2023, taking two fourth place finishes in the Promoter’s Cup and also a respectable eight overall in the last race on Sunday.

Newcomer to the series Mark Taylor started off with a great performance in Super Pole on Saturday, qualifying third in the Promoter’s Cup category.
A technical failure on the truck prevented him from capitalising on his great qualifying position, as he had to retire from the first race of the day. The British driver saw the chequered flag in all remaining races, taking a solid points haul from his first race weekend.

The first race weekend of the season didn’t go too well for Spaniard Luis Recuenco, who only got track time in the first two races on Saturday. Recuenco hit a penalty marker at the start of race three which caused damage to the underside of this truck, which forced him to retire in lap two and left him unable to make the start of Race 4.
