Jochen Hahn storms to victory in Zolder

Jochen Hahn stormed to his second victory of the season in Race two at Zolder on Sunday afternoon.

The German snatched the lead from pole-sitter André Kursim with a superb start. He pulled away from the field behind and disappeared down the road to secure an unchallenged win.

Norbert Kiss, who started in seventh, worked his way up the field and, by lap three and after a smooth move on Kursim, he was already in second, starting to hunt down Jochen Hahn, who was leading by 7 seconds. He chipped away at the gap but in the end it wasn’t enough as he crossed the line just under two seconds behind Hahn.

Behind the pair, battles raged up and down the grid, like the fight for Promoter’s Cup victory between Téo Calvet and Jamie Anderson. Right from the start Anderson was nose to bumper with Calvet with the pair making contact. In a big move he managed to get past Calvet and tried to get away from the Buggyra racer, however they stayed within a second of each other throughout the race.

In a last lap push Calvet was attempting to make a move on Anderson with the pair making contact in the hairpin, and the French racer going into the gravel. Both dropped back, handing the win in the Promoter’s Cup to Steffen Faas. Anderson still made the bottom step of the podium, ninth overall, while Calvet finished fourth in class, tenth overall.

The incident between Anderson and Calvet went under investigation, but no further action was given.

Antonio Albacete and Adam Lacko, who started the race alongside each other and ahead of Sascha Lenz, swapped around position several times. Even though the German gained the upper hand, he was slapped with a ten second penalty for over speeding, which was converted into a drive through, that saw him lose out positions as he finished 13th, while Albacete finished fourth and Lacko fifth.

The German had a shock moment, when he served his drive through as on the entry of the pitlane, a team member unaware of him approaching crossed the road. But thankfully Lenz, who reacted quick and braked hard, avoided anything worse.

José Eduardo Rodrigues celebrated his first Promoter’s Cup podium this season as he took second in class, eight overall.

Shane Brereton was hit with a drive through penalty for over speeding, which put him fifth in the Promoter’s Cup and 11th overall.

Jonathan André finished 12th and Clemens Hecker completed the field in 14th, after he too was given a drive through penalty for over speeding.
