POLE FOR KISS AS ALBACETE DENIES HOME FAVOURITES FRONT ROW

Norbert Kiss has taken pole position for Race 3 of the International ADAC Truck Grand Prix, with Race 2 winner Antonio Albacete lining up beside him.

Only four Titans made it through to Q3, making the battle for the front row tighter than ever. Setting off first, Jochen Hahn and Sascha Lenz set the pace, with Hahn just ahead at the end of the flying laps. However, it was Kiss who came in and spoiled the home crowd’s fun, claiming pole with a 1:53.147.

After his stunning victory yesterday and a gearbox change overnight, Albacete was feeling the rhythm of the Ring. His one flying lap in Q3 was half a second off Kiss’ time, but it put him a tenth up on Hahn, stealing second on the Race 3 grid. The two Germans will line up side by side on row two.

Row three saw a battle of the Chromes as a fantastic lap from Mark Taylor saw him sneak into Q3, beating René Reinert by thousandths of a second to progress to the final five minutes. He tried hard to take class pole from Lukas Hahn, but a track limits infringement saw his first lap time deleted. It was half a second off Hahn anyway, but his second attempt was much slower, giving honours to Race 1’s Chrome pole sitter. Taylor takes P6 overall, beside Lukas Hahn in P5, giving us a Chrome row three.

Narrowly missing out on a Q3 appearance, Reinert takes P7 alongside José Eduardo Rodrigues in P8. It was a more difficult day for Steffi Halm today compared to yesterday, who could place her IVECO no better than P9. She shares the fifth row with Chrome P3 John Newell.

Clemens Hecker, who had a magnitude of issues yesterday, will be happy with his P11 start, right in the thick of the Chrome class drivers. The incident he was involved in yesterday that took him out of Race 2 saw the air line disconnected forcing him to retire from the race. The team feel confident they’re on top of their issues that have plagued their weekend and are looking for a much more competitive Sunday.

Bradley Smith had two different lap times deleted in this qualifying session due to track limits – one in Q1 and one in Q2. He wasn’t in contention for progressing into Q3 when his best time of Q2 was deleted, dropping him to P12.

Steffen Faas missed out on a Q2 appearance by a couple of thousandths of a second, unable to find that tiny improvement that would have seen him start higher up the grid. He takes P13, ahead of Luis Recuenco, Luke Garrett, Stefan Kursch and Christian Ruppert.

The penultimate race of the Nürburgring weekend is set for lights out at 12:00 local time.
