Rain a pain for Halm in Goodyear FIA ETRC
Steffi Halm has explained how rain became a pain in Qualifying 1-2-3 at Autodrom Most yesterday.
The Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship event winner had been expected to challenge for a place in Q3 until it all went wrong for the IVECO-powered German driver in Q1, which she completed with the 15th fastest time.
It means she will start Race 1, which is streamed live on YouTube, from the eighth row of the grid alongside fellow female racer Emma Mäkinen.
Halm explained: “In the first fast lap I had a corner marker, so they cancelled the lap time. I made a cool-down lap and go on another fast one but then it started to rain so I was not able to make a faster lap again. I stayed [on track] in Q1 until the end because I was hoping that maybe the rain would stop and the track gets a little bit faster and drier, but it didn’t, so P15 is a very disappointing but now it’s racing, and we are looking forward to gaining some positions.
“Most is very difficult to overtake and at the start you have the very narrow chicane and it’s getting very tight there and you don’t know what happens in front of you, so I just have to watch what.”
Halm’s Die Bullen von Iveco team-mate Jochen Hahn, a winner of the Goodyear FIA ETRC title on six occasions, was also out of luck in Friday qualifying, dropping out at the Q2 stage when on course for a place in Q3.

“Stupid Jochen in the Q2,” he said. “Two minutes before the end of Q2 conditions were nearly stable to go dry, I had the lap time and on the radio I had the information ‘P3’. I think with my experience it’s safe for Q3. But one more lap I’m P8, stupid. In the end it is like it is and I’m not unhappy. The performance is there, we can be at the speed and now we make racing, that’s why we are here. Points are not coming in the practice, they are coming in the race and now we make a big show for the fans.”
Race 1 is due to get under way at 12:40 local time with Race 2 following at 16:15. Both races are being streamed live on YouTube.
