ETRA ends successful chapter as promoter of the Goodyear FIA ETRC
Since becoming the promoter in 2016, ETRA Promotion GmbH (ETRA) has led the series through one of its most transformative decades, delivering growth, innovation, and increased industry relevance while keeping the heart of truck racing beating strong.
After a decade at the helm, ETRA has decided not to submit a proposal in the FIA’s current Expression of Interest process for the future promotion of the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship from 2026 onwards.
As the championship’s first-ever promoter, ETRA has played a pivotal role in shaping its modern era. Through strategic vision, long-term commitment, and continued investment, the team has built a stable, sustainable and future-ready platform that has grown in relevance, overcome major challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, and led the way in motorsport sustainability.
The key milestones that marked this journey:
- Sustainability leadership: In 2021, the Goodyear FIA ETRC became the first ever motorsport series to switch entirely to 100% renewable HVO fuel by TotalEnergies. Championship partner Goodyear was instrumental in driving forward sustainability in truck racing, retreading used racing tyres for on-road use and introducing tyres made from 55% sustainable materials.
- Shaping the technological direction: Through a technology-open approach, ETRA has paved the way for alternative drive systems such as LNG, hydrogen, and electric power - placing sustainability at the heart of the championship’s strategic direction, exemplified in visible and tangible ways, such as Iveco’s fully electric and LNG-powered Pace Trucks.
- Top FIA honour for sustainability efforts: ETRA Promotion received the prestigious FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation, the highest level of environmental sustainability recognition from the governing body, for its sustainability efforts in the Goodyear FIA ETRC.
- Media and audience growth: Starting from humble beginnings, ETRA built a championship with more than 100 million media contacts per year, and attracts an annual live audience of over 350,000 passionate fans and professionals, creating a unique fusion of motorsport, industry, and family-friendly experience.
- Strengthened community and industry ties: Through initiatives such as the #onetruckfamily campaign, ETRA has given the championship a purpose beyond racing - bringing positive visibility to professional truck drivers and addressing the industry’s driver shortage with pride, emotion and purpose.
- Reignited industry and OEM interest: Despite a broader decline of factory-backed motorsport, ETRA has helped to spark renewed interest from manufacturers and industry leaders in the unique appeal of truck racing by proactively contributing in official working groups and beyond.
- Introduced new sporting formats to improve competitive balance, such as the Young Drivers and Chrome categories.
On that journey, the partners have been vital: From the beginning, championship partner and title sponsor Goodyear has been an essential partner throughout ETRA’s role as promoter of the Goodyear FIA ETRC, playing a pivotal role in advancing both the sporting and sustainability ambitions of the championship. From retreading used racing tyres for on-road use to introducing new racing tyres made from 55% sustainable materials, Goodyear has consistently driven innovation on and off the track. The ETRC has served as a proving ground for Goodyear’s next-generation technologies, with insights from racing directly influencing commercial truck tyre development.
The leadership in sustainable mobility of all involved partners, Goodyear, Ford Trucks, Alcoa, Iveco, Eurowag, TotalEnergies, Jost, and Krone, has been particularly instrumental in shaping truck racing into a benchmark for responsible motorsport.
“We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved in the last ten years,” said ETRA Managing Director Georg Fuchs. “We have led the series through one of its most transformative decades. From the beginning, our goal was to create a platform that delivers not just exciting racing, but also long-term value for partners, teams, manufacturers and fans.
We have focused on professionalising the series, integrating sustainability into the core of our activities, and building strong partnerships across the industry. The result is a championship that is more relevant and more resilient than ever before. A big thanks to our ETRA staff, including former co-Managing Director Rolf Werner, who was also a fundamental part of the journey and success.“
ETRA Operations Director Janine Meyer added: “ETRA is deeply grateful to the teams, drivers, circuits, fans, and partners whose trust, energy, and collaboration have made this success possible. ETRA would like to extend its sincere thanks to everyone who has been part of this journey. Together, we have built a platform that is stable, professional and truly unique in motorsport.”
After a decade of driving growth as promoter, ETRA will transition to a role as one of several event organisers, proud of the legacy it leaves behind. With a strong foundation in place, the championship is well positioned for the future.
As ETRA shifts its focus towards the well-established ADAC Truck-Grand-Prix, Europe’s leading and most impactful truck racing event, and explores potential new projects, it looks forward to seeing European truck racing continue to thrive in the years ahead.
Next year’s edition of the ADAC Truck-Grand-Prix will take place from 10 - 12 July 2026.
