The Vision of the Truck Efficiency Run

Shine a spotlight on the vital role professional drivers play in building a more sustainable future for transport

Efficiency has long been a key challenge in the world of commercial road transport - one that requires smart thinking, innovative technology and above all, skilled drivers. The Truck Efficiency Run (TER) was born out of a simple but powerful idea: to shine a spotlight on the vital role professional drivers play in building a more sustainable future for transport.

Developed by the organisers of the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship (ETRC), the Truck Efficiency Run brings together the worlds of motorsport and logistics like never before. While truck racing is all about speed, adrenaline and precision under pressure, the daily business of transport calls for a different kind of excellence: consistency, focus and efficiency on the road.

The TER competition flips the script. It’s not about who’s fastest - it’s about who’s smartest. By measuring energy consumption against a target average speed, the event challenges drivers to optimise every move, showcasing their ability to drive with strategy, skill and precision. It’s a test of real-world performance on one of the world’s most iconic tracks: the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

But the Truck Efficiency Run is more than just a competition — it’s a statement. As part of the #onetruckfamily campaign, it celebrates the people who keep goods moving across Europe. It aims to inspire, elevate and connect.

The vision is clear: to promote the evolution of transport toward greater efficiency, and to create a platform that values the contribution of every driver behind the wheel. With categories for diesel, renewable fuels, electric, hydrogen and bio-LNG trucks, the TER also reflects the diversity and innovation driving the industry forward.

By recognising those who do the job best, the Truck Efficiency Run hopes to foster pride, promote innovation, and bring fresh energy into one of Europe’s most important industries.
