Why Jarama is the “benchmark” for Recuenco in Goodyear FIA ETRC
Home Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship contender Luis Recuenco has described Circuito de Madrid Jarama – RACE as the “benchmark” track ahead of the venue hosting the 2026 season showdown this weekend.
Mercedes-Benz-powered Recuenco began his racing career at the former Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix venue in 1988 and relishes every opportunity he gets to try out the 3.850-kilometre layout.
“For me, Jarama is the benchmark circuit,” Chrome category driver Recuenco said. “It is the track where I have gained the most experience, it’s where I started racing in 1988, and where I have been able to put everything I have learned into practice.
“I am Spanish, and the circuit is very close to home. I enjoy every corner, every braking zone and every racing line. I also really enjoy the atmosphere and the people. At the end of the day, we are all from the same city, so there is a very special connection with the spectators.”
Recuenco continued: “I have countless memories of Jarama. I am very fortunate to be able to say that I have competed there every year since [1988]. That is a lot of years and a lot of racing, so I have many great memories from such a long career at the circuit.”
Ahead of the Goodyear FIA ETRC season finale, which also counts as the 39th Grand Prix de España FIA Europeo de Camiones, Recuenco is seventh in the Chrome standings.
“My goal this weekend is simply to do the best job possible,” he said. “I believe that will allow me to achieve better results and, above all, to feel more fulfilled and more in tune with myself as a driver. We are also running a new truck this year, which we are still developing, so I think I am going to enjoy the weekend a lot.”
