King Kiss keeps pushing in Goodyear FIA ETRC
Norbert Kiss scored his 17th victory of the 2026 Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship, underlining his dominance by claiming a winning margin of 8.801s in Race 3 at Le Mans today (Sunday).
But while Kiss celebrated triumphing outright ahead of Jochen Hahn and Sascha Lenz, John Newell took the Chrome category honours.
The result meant Newell edged further ahead of title rival Mark Taylor, who finished third behind Bradley Smith having been hampered by a gearbox issue throughout the 11-lap contest.
After winning Race 2 outright on Saturday, José Eduardo Rodrigues celebrated becoming the Goodyear FIA ETRC Young Driver champion for 2026*. The Portuguese driver, whose father and grandfather also raced in the series in the past, finished fifth behind Antonio Albacete as René Reinert completed the top six.
“I feel very good,” Rodrigues said. “It’s a big year with a lot of ups and downs but we had a very good pace, we were pushing to the maximum and it’s very good. We need more young drivers, more people to compete with us. It’s a fantastic championship with very good people, so if it’s possible, come.”
By finishing eighth overall, Smith will start Race 4 from the reverse-grid pole position alongside Newell. The Britons shared the front row of the grid for Race 2 at Jarama last October when Newell banked his maiden outright victory in the Goodyear FIA ETRC.
“Bradley had a few good nibbles at me in the first lap or so, but we got set up a bit aggressive from qualifying and burned my front tyre in the first three laps and hit two penalty markers, so for the rest of the race I had to back it down and be so careful,” Newell explained. “Steffi [Halm] was on Bradley’s back all the time so I knew I’d pull a gap. I just kept my head down and make sure I didn’t hit a penalty marker, take full points and that’s me good. We left the same set-up [after qualifying] and we should have made it a bit less aggressive, but we didn’t know how it was going to be because it’s a completely new set-up but now we can alter it for Race 4.”
For Kiss, first place in Race 3 at Le Mans gave the Révész Racing driver further cause for celebration after the Hungarian secured his eighth Goodyear FIA ETRC title* with victory in Race 1 yesterday.
But having started from pole position – his 12th of the season – Kiss briefly slipped behind the fast-starting Hahn before the German gave the place back when he realised that his getaway had been too rapid.
“For sure it felt like he jumped the start for me because it was very early,” Kiss said afterwards. “Then he gave me back the position, so I guess he felt the same. From there I just had the pace, did my race, push away and built a gap. It was a good race, nice conditions but the Goodyear tyres held up very well.
“The start was a bit strange but other than that it worked out very well. For sure it was hotter conditions than yesterday, but we had good pace and I’m very proud of the team, Révész Racing, a big thank you to them.”
Hahn explained: “I was a little bit early, that’s why I gave the position directly back to Norbi. It was unfair so I make it fair after the first corner. After he showed how big the b******* are from him because eight seconds in front means a lot. It’s not a shame but it’s the life. I’m still happy, it’s good points and we will fight for the podium again.”
Despite intense pressure from Albacete, Lenz held on to finish third for the second time this weekend.
“It was a good podium, a good start and I was directly in position three,” said Lenz. “In the end I could not go the pace, but it is what it is. I see Antonio every time in the mirror, but it was fair, he made no contact.”
Following a troubled second qualifying, Halm finished ninth ahead of Mark Taylor, Steffen Faas, Luke Garrett and Luis Recuenco.
Clemens Hecker retired after three laps with an ongoing fuel pump-related issue.
Race 4 provides the final Goodyear FIA ETRC action of the 24 Heures Camions weekend from 16:55. The race will be broadcast live across Europe and around the world and streamed as it happens on YouTube.
