Goodyear joins FIA European Truck Racing Championship as official partner

Announcing a three year contract to supply the FIA European Truck Racing Championship (FIA ETRC), Goodyear, the famous tire manufacturer, will become a key partner in the new era of truck racing from 2016 onwards.

Selected by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the partnership sees Goodyear extend its long-term commitment to the FIA ETRC, in which it has produced specially developed truck racing tires for over a decade.

Sharing ETRA Promotion’s philosophy of continuous improvement and step-by-step progress in enhancing the FIA ETRC’s coverage and image, Goodyear has committed to driving forward new technologies and developments in truck tires of the future, all in the ultra-competitive world of the FIA ETRC.

Speaking about Goodyear’s decision to embrace the new dawn in the FIA European Truck Racing Championship, ETRA Promotion’s Georg Fuchs commented: “We are delighted that Goodyear continues to be a key partner in the future of the FIA ETRC. Goodyear share the same outlook that ETRA has in maintaining the core values of top-class truck racing, while at the same time looking ahead to an even more exciting future with larger grids and innovative marketing and media activations.”

Benjamin Willot, Director Marketing Commercial Tires at Goodyear Europe, Middle East and Africa said of the announcement: “We are delighted to have been selected by FIA theexclusive truck race tire partner to the European Truck Racing Association Promotion GmbH for the next three years.  In 2016 we celebrate our twelfth anniversary as supplier of specially developed truck race tires to the European Truck Racing Championship.  This partnership allows us to demonstrate the high performance of our products and to test new technologies that will ultimately benefit our standard truck tires.  In addition it gives us new opportunities for greater involvement in the European Truck Racing Championship and to further profile our brand, our tires and our services.”

Goodyear will provide a uniquely researched and developed truck race tire which incorporates RFID (Radio Frequency Identity). This ‘chip in the tire’ technology gives the race officials a distinct identity which can be monitored throughout its life.

Goodyear will use all its technical experience and its innovative capabilities to provide 315/70R22.5 size tires to all teams. The FIA ETRC is also a platform for Goodyear’s future truck tire development as their products reach very high temperatures due to the loads generated.

A specifically designed tread will provide superb grip in both dry and wet track conditions from the tire.  In combination with a characteristic asymmetric shoulder design and circumferential grooves, the Goodyear truck race tread compound offers all round performance consistently to all drivers and on all tracks.

The Goodyear namewill be particularly visible in the FIA ETRC and along with the new championship promoters – ETRA Promotion – they will involve fans at the track and on TV with information and engagements throughout the next three seasons.
