ETRC receives notable mention in motorsport sustainability ranking
ETRC ranks 16th overall out of 105 globally recognised motorsport championships
The one-of-a-kind Sustainable Championships Index™ (SChI™), which assesses and ranks the sustainability performance of motorsport championships such as the ABB FIA Formula E, FIA Formula One and MotoGP, has featured the Goodyear FIA ETRC in a notable mention.
The Goodyear FIA ETRC was ranked 16th overall out of 105 globally recognised 2- and 4-wheeled motorsport championships, acknowledging the efforts of the series to reach net-zero by 2038 and utilising its platform to drive change in the haulage industry.
“We are very proud to have received this very respectable ranking and notable mention in the Sustainable Championships Index™,” said Georg Fuchs, ETRA managing director.
“It is a recognition of our efforts to make truck racing more sustainable, and also utilising our platform to accelerate the switch to and acceptance of alternatively powered heavy goods vehicles.”
The plans and actions of the championship to reach carbon neutrality in the next decade have been set out in the sustainability roadmap in 2021. The Goodyear FIA ETRC was the first-ever motorsport series to successfully switch to a 100% sustainable fuel and bio-LNG and with title partner Goodyear, the racing tyres are recycled for on-road retreading, further reducing the use of natural resources, waste accumulation and energy.
Since 2019 the Goodyear FIA ETRC has also been highlighting and addressing the socio economic issue of the truck driver shortage across Europe through the #onetruckfamily campaign.
In a bid to drive forward sustainable technologies in the road haulage industry, the series introduced the Innovation Camp in the paddock, in collaboration with the local Event Organisers and the International Truck of Year (ITOY), which provides manufacturers with a platform to showcase their sustainable developments and present alternatively powered trucks at the ETRC events, to help increase the acceptance of new technologies in the industry and amongst truck drivers.
The SChI™ assesses and ranks the sustainability performance of 105 global two- and four-wheeled championships against six key dimensions of sustainability, including certifications, accreditations and awards, environmental criteria, social criteria, engagement and partnerships, and sustainability approach.
The Index’s bespoke methodology, developed by Enovation Consulting in collaboration with Professor Paolo Taticchi, Professor of Strategy and Sustainability at UCL School of Management, considers publicly available data spanning August to November 2022.
It is the only global performance system that measures and reports on the sustainability practices against the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and the ESG framework
