2025 ETRC season finale set for Chrome showdown in Jarama
The overall champion of the 2025 Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship was crowned in Le Mans, where Norbert Kiss secured a record-breaking seventh title, but the season’s battles aren’t over yet. In Jarama, the spotlight now shifts to the fiercely contested Chrome class, where the championship will be decided.
A bumper grid of 18 trucks will contest the finale, including four race-by-race entries - Lukas Hahn, Craig Reid, Simon Reid and Jonathan André - all of whom have already featured in the Goodyear FIA ETRC this year and will add extra spice to the Chrome showdown.
Just two points separate the top four in Chrome with four races to go. After a strong Sunday in Le Mans, Clemens Hecker leads the standings. He is tied on points with Bradley Smith, who has led most of the season, but holds the advantage on countback. John Newell bounced back at Le Mans to move into third, just one point ahead of Mark Taylor. For all four contenders, a near-perfect weekend will be needed to secure the 2025 title and a place in the top three when the final chequered flag falls in Jarama.
In the overall standings, Steffi Halm and Sascha Lenz are locked in a close fight for third, separated by only one point. Lenz’s podiums in the higher-scoring odd-numbered races at Le Mans give him the slight edge over Halm’s double podium in the even-numbered races, but the battle in Spain will come down to who can maximise their weekend performance, to join Norbert Kiss and Jochen Hahn in the season’s top three.
René Reinert and Antonio Albacete remain mathematically in contention for third overall, but the odds are against them. They’ll need an exceptional weekend and for results to fall their way to overhaul Halm and Lenz.
With Recuenco taking a joker this weekend, Luke Garrett has a chance to reclaim fifth in the Chrome standings, improving significantly on his ninth-place finish in class last season. Currently sixth and 26 points behind Recuenco, Garrett will need a strong performance. If he can replicate the pace he showed at Zolder, where he took his maiden Chrome class victory, he could move up the order.
